The steering wheel is connected to the steel rods in the back of the boat as shown in the picture.

In the second picture, you can see tape covered to keep intact the rods. I’m currently using temporary fix to keep these attached but I need help with a proper steel connector because when I try to put the connecter myself, the rods always slip out.
